Tucked right back into the forest and almost invisible, except the main part of the camp, Mahale blends in with its surroundings incredibly well, you really feel part of the forest staying here. This is, without doubt, our first choice for Mahale, the standard of guiding and service is exceptional and the food and feel of the place is superb. Within the impressive, thatched, main building there is an upper deck with beautiful views while downstairs is the dining room which leads out to the firepit, sun-loungers on the beach and the odd deck chair.
The rooms are unique in design, made from reclaimed wood from villages along the lakeshore. Downstairs is the bedroom with double or twin beds and at the back of the room is the en-suite bathroom with flushing toilette and shower. Upstairs is a relaxation area with a little lounge and views across the beach to the lake. With plenty of activities on offer, the focus being the chimp trekking, you can choose to be as busy or relaxed as you like. This is one of the most iconic lodges in the whole of Africa and offers an incredible and unique experience. We absolutely love it, and for those lucky enough to have stayed here, it is, without contest, our favourite!
