Nyere National Park offers some of the best opportunities for walking activities in Tanzania. Naturally at a slower pace, the focus of a walking safari is on the smaller aspects of the ecosystem that get missed when driving, but are of no less importance and intrigue – flora, insects, tracks and dung. That being said, Nyere is home to the Big 5 and so walks are always led by an armed guide and ranger, as you never know what lies around the corner! Walks will generally take place in the early morning as this is the coolest time of the day so walkers leave camp after a cup of tea/coffee and have breakfast on their return. Typically walking safaris take 2-3 hours to cover a couple of miles, so suitable for most capabilities and fitness levels. Treading softly on foot through the bush, never quite knowing what discovery will unfold, is one of the best ways to explore this beautiful park.
