Inevitably at a slower pace, the focus of a walking safari is on the fascinating flora, animal tracking, dung and geography of the Selous. However, we do often hear from our clients that they have seen some of the larger animals of Tanzania on foot; nowhere in the Selous is fenced, so you will always be accompanied by an armed park ranger to keep you safe from whatever may be around the corner! Generally, the early morning is the coolest time of the day and walkers leave after a cup of tea or coffee and eat breakfast on their return to camp. Typically walking safaris last around 2 hours and cover 2 miles, so are far more of a stroll than a march and are suitable for most capabilities or fitness levels: we highly recommend it.
