Katambuga House is a small, relaxed guest lodge set in extensive, very pretty gardens and is a great option for spending a night before setting off on safari. You’ll find friendly staff, brilliant food and a lovely pool – all the ingredients you need for a warm and comfortable welcome to Tanzania. On a clear day there are views of Mount Meru to the north so you get a real sense of place.

The main farmhouse has just 4 en-suite bedrooms – all light, airy, simply designed, very comfortable and each with doors opening on to a private veranda. There are two further cottages, each with two bedrooms and a shared bathroom, so perfect for families.

Katambuga is located at the opposite side of Arusha to Kilimanjaro Airport so is quite a drive when arriving/departing with international flights; but we think the peaceful setting and warm welcome on arrival makes taking a little longer to get there more than worthwhile. Furthermore, you’re then at the right side of town for setting off on safari the next day, being only 10 minutes from Arusha Airport or easy access by road to Tarangire, Manyara and Ngorongoro.
